Claw vs No Claw Holster | TUKD IWB Kydex Guide
Claw vs No Claw Holster: Which One You Need
A concealment claw is a small attachment on the front of an IWB holster that changes how the gun sits against your body. It is one of the most talked-about holster accessories, and also one of the most misunderstood. This page explains what a claw actually does, who benefits from one, and how it works with TUKD holsters.
What a claw does
A claw catches on the top edge of your belt or waistband. When your belt tightens against it, the claw pushes the front of the holster away from your body, which rotates the grip of the gun inward toward you. The grip is the part of a concealed pistol that prints most, so rotating it in flattens the biggest tell. A claw does not change retention and does not change ride height. It only changes the angle the gun sits at.
Who needs a claw
- Appendix carriers. AIWB is where a claw helps most, because the grip sits right at the front of the body where printing shows.
- Carriers of a full-grip pistol like the Glock 19 or a Sig P365 XL, where the grip is long enough to print without help.
- Anyone who conceals under a fitted shirt and sees the grip pushing out the fabric.
Who does not need one
- Strong side carriers at 4 o'clock, where the grip already rides along the body and a claw does less.
- Carriers of a very small pistol under a loose cover garment, where printing is already minimal.
- Anyone who finds their current setup conceals cleanly. A claw solves a specific problem and is not mandatory.
The TUKD position on claws
TUKD holsters ship as the shell plus a standard belt clip. Claws, wings, and wedges are sold separately, not included in the box. A claw works with both the TUKD ORIGIN and the GHOST shells. We keep the base holster clean and let you add the accessories your carry style actually needs, rather than charging everyone for a claw that not every carrier wants.
Claw and no claw compared
With a claw, the grip rotates in and prints less, concealment under fitted clothing improves, and appendix carry gets noticeably flatter. Without a claw, the holster is simpler and slightly lighter, works fine for strong side carry, and conceals well already with a small gun or a looser garment. Neither is wrong. The claw is a tuning tool for concealment, not a fix for a bad holster.

Frequently asked questions
What does a concealment claw do?
It catches on your belt and rotates the grip of the gun in toward your body so it prints less. It does not change retention or ride height.
Does a TUKD holster come with a claw?
No. TUKD holsters ship as the shell plus a standard belt clip. Claws, wings, and wedges are sold separately.
Does a claw work with the ORIGIN and GHOST?
Yes. A claw works with both the TUKD ORIGIN and the GHOST shells.
Do I need a claw for strong side carry?
Usually not. A claw helps most with appendix carry. At strong side the grip already rides along the body.
Will a claw fix printing on its own?
It reduces grip printing, which is the biggest tell, but clothing choice and gun size matter too. It is a tuning tool, not a cure-all.
Is a left-hand option available?
TUKD holsters are right-hand only.
