The Glock 19 is the most carried pistol in America. If you own one, you have probably already cycled through two or three holsters trying to find the right fit. Soft hybrid. Pocket carry. Generic Kydex. Maybe a leather rig your dad gave you.
This is a 12 month carry test of one specific holster: the TUKD ORIGIN for Glock. We made it, but we tested it the same way we test every shell. Carried daily. Drawn from regularly. Worn through summer heat and winter layers.
Here is what we learned.
The Short Answer
For a Glock 19 carried appendix or strong side, the TUKD ORIGIN is a slim non light Kydex IWB that hits all the key checkpoints. Pre tuned retention. Hand beveled edges so it does not bite at hour eight. 12 color and pattern options. Lifetime warranty.
It is not the cheapest holster you can buy. It is not the only Kydex option. But it has been the most reliable carry holster in our rotation for a year.
What We Tested
We carried the TUKD ORIGIN for Glock 19 daily for 12 months. Average carry time was 10 hours per day. Locations included a daily commute, range training, gym sessions, and travel to two states.
We tested:
- Retention out of the box.
- Retention after 30, 90, 180, and 365 days.
- Comfort across summer heat (Vegas summer, 110 degrees) and winter layers.
- Concealment under a t shirt, under a polo, and under a casual button down.
- Draw consistency on the range.
- Re holster smoothness.
Retention
Out of the box, the gun seated with a clear click and held firmly. We tested by inverting the holster with the gun in it. The Glock did not move. We tested by shaking the holster vigorously. Same result.
After 30 days, retention was identical to day one. The Kydex did not loosen.
After 365 days, retention was about 5 percent looser by feel. Still firmly held the gun. We did not need to message TUKD for an adjustment.
Compared to a screw adjusted Kydex holster from another brand, the TUKD ORIGIN required zero maintenance over the year. The other holster needed retention tightened twice in the same period.
Comfort
The hand beveled edges matter more than we expected. Sharp edges on the inside of the shell will dig into your side after a few hours. The TUKD edges are smoothed by hand at our Las Vegas workshop. We did not develop hot spots even on 12 hour carry days.
In Vegas summer (110 degree days), the Kydex shell trapped some heat against the side. This is true for any Kydex holster. We did not find the TUKD ORIGIN worse than other Kydex options we tested.
Under winter layers, the slim profile mattered. The TUKD does not add bulk. We could wear a tucked button down without printing.
Concealment
Under a t shirt, the gun printed slightly when reaching across the body. This is true for any IWB holster on a 5 foot 10 inch frame carrying a Glock 19. The TUKD did not print worse than other shells.
Under a polo or casual button down, the gun did not print at all in normal stance or movement.
Draw Consistency
Over 365 days we drew the gun probably 1500 times in dry practice and 200 times on the range. Draw consistency was high. The gun came out of the shell at the same angle every time. The pre tuned retention released with the same effort on every draw.
Re Holster
Re holster was clean. The polished bore on the inside of the shell let the gun slide back in without resistance. We never had a re holster that snagged shirt fabric or required two hands.
What We Would Change
No holster is perfect. Things we would improve on the TUKD ORIGIN if we could:
- Add an optional concealment claw at no charge. Currently sold separately. A lot of carriers want one and adding one to the box would simplify the buying experience.
- Offer a hybrid leather + Kydex option for carriers who want a soft inner pad. We do not currently make this.
- Add more left handed inventory. Lefties wait a few extra days because we form fewer left side shells per batch.
Who Should Buy It
Buy the TUKD ORIGIN for Glock if:
- You carry a Glock 17, 19, 19X, 22, 23, 26, 27, 34, 43, 43X, 43X MOS, 45, or 48.
- You want pre tuned Kydex retention without screws to fiddle with.
- You like Made in USA and prefer a small workshop over a mass producer.
- You want a lifetime warranty.
- You like color and pattern variety. 12 patterns including Multicam, Don't Tread, Topo, and Tiger Stripe.
Who Should Look Elsewhere
- You want adjustable retention screws. The TUKD does not have them by design.
- You carry a weapon mounted light. The ORIGIN is non light. For light bearing carry pick the TUKD GHOST for Glock instead.
- You want a hybrid leather + Kydex shell. We do not make one.
